Be Well

This preaching tip was shared by Preacher’s Block co-founder, Hunter Bethea. If you’re interested in joining the most focused preachers in the world and getting these tips sent to your inbox every week, sign up here.

The other day, I was listening to Carey Nieuwhof’s podcast with guest Steve Cuss, ordained pastor and author of the books Managing Leadership Anxiety: Yours and Theirs and The Expectation Gap. Cuss (great name for a pastor, btw) shared that one of the greatest needs the church has today is for our pastors to be “well.” He went on to say that nobody wants to follow an unwell leader. We can do all the right things—sign up for Preacher’s Block, set aside ample time for study, rehearse the sermon 10 times—but if we aren’t well, we won’t lead our people well. So, what do you need to do to be well, especially with the Lent and Easter seasons looming? Keep the Sabbath? Take a vacation? Go for a walk? Go to the doctor? Call a friend? Your church will benefit from you being a preacher who is well. Take the courageous step to be well.
