Make it Memorable

Did you watch the Barbie movie that came out a couple years ago? (Hang with me here…) If you didn’t, a running joke was that Ken’s occupation was listed as “Beach”?

Here’s the thing… our congregants’ jobs aren’t “Church.” So it’s likely that—while you think a lot about church—they don’t. Therefore, they’re not likely to remember what you preach each and every week. So if you really want them to remember something, make it memorable. Make it hard for them to forget it during the week. Use a prop, a catchy phrase, or a unique style of preaching so that they remember it. Just make sure they remember what you want them to remember, not how you tried to get them to remember it. Nobody wants their congregants to say, “I really loved the prop he/she used but I can’t remember why they used it.”
