I always ask 5 questions in sermon preparation:

1) What is the single most compelling point to communicate?
2) Why is it important?
3) Why am I the one to communicate it?
4) What does my audience currently think?
5) What do I want them to do?

I find these help give me focused on what I have to share from the Scripture and how it can lead to transformation in people’s lives.
